Categories
Opinion Editorial
A timely piece devoted to a specific scientific topic with a strong perspective. Write for a general audience: assume no jargon and no specialized background.

- 12-pt Times New Roman, single-spaced, 1-inch margins. Submit as a Google Doc.
Briefing
Explains a novel discovery or a complex topic in a way that can be understood by a reader with a high-school-level understanding of science.
- Length
- 1–2 consecutive pages of figures and text
- Format
- 12-pt Times New Roman, single-spaced, 1-inch margins. Submit text as a Google Doc.
- Note
- Figures must fit within 8.5 × 11 inches.
Letter
Commentary responding to an article published elsewhere in the scientific press. Letters may support, extend, or push back on the original piece.

- 500–1,500 words

- Cite the article you are responding to.
Science Art
Visual work of any kind: photography, graphic design, comics, illustration, infographics. Submit with a title and a 100-word description of the science behind it.

- One 8.5 × 11-inch page

- PDF, PNG, or JPG.

- Selected art is considered for the cover.
Podcast Script
A high-quality podcast script discussing novel, science-based content. Submit with a title, a 100-word description, and cover artwork.

- 5–12 minutes (roughly 500–1,500 words)
- Format
- 12-pt Times New Roman, single-spaced, 1-inch margins. Submit as a Google Doc.
- Note
- Include cover artwork.
AI disclosure
Disclose any use of AI. If you used a generative AI tool at any stage, you must disclose it in your cover letter and in your acknowledgments, including the full prompt used, the tool, and its version. Undisclosed AI use is grounds for redaction from the published edition.
How review works
- Submission. You submit through the portal on this site. You will get an emailed confirmation.
- Editorial screening. Editors check scope, eligibility, and format. Pieces outside scope are returned quickly.
- Review. Each submission is read by members of the editorial board and assessed on argument, accuracy, and clarity.
- Decision. Authors are notified by email. Accepted pieces move into editing.
- Editing and publication. You work with an assigned editor through revisions, then the piece appears in the edition and on this site with a permanent link.
Decisions for the 2026–2027 Edition arrive by late April 2027; the edition publishes in Fall 2027.
